Process Blog:

Create a mock-up business and design an identity logo, a style guide, and a product for the brand.

I decided to make a natural canned food brand for cat. The reason of this kind of brand is that the current canned food for cats on the market is mostly made with a lot of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. So I want to make some healthy canned food with natural ingredients for cats.

First, I created a mood board to explore color options. I collected cat images from Pexels and noticed that many featured bright, colorful tones. I selected the most frequently appearing colors from these images for my palette.

For my brand’s product, I decided to create an app. Since the canned food will be made with natural ingredients and may spoil quickly, the app ensures fast and trackable delivery. To showcase my business provides an online shopping system, allowing customers to conveniently purchase products without needing to visit a physical pet store.

This is the logo for my brand. I named it Meow because I wanted the brand to feel cute and have a clear connection to cats.

I started by sketching multiple thumbnail ideas to explore different possibilities and see which design worked best. I really liked the four-letter layout, similar to the "I ❤️ NY" sign, so I developed various compositions using that structure.

For the final logo, I replaced the letter “O” with a paw, incorporating a visual cat element to make the brand’s focus immediately clear to viewers. The paw has only three toes to symbolize the many cats that have been harmed by humans and to serve as a reminder that there are many cats in need of rescue. The colors were selected from the palette I created in my mood board.

The brand style guide includes an introduction to the brand, its values, logo, color palette, and the font used for the app.

I designed the layout using a grid system to ensure clarity and organization. My goal was to keep the design clean, hierarchical, and simple. The background features a green color paired with a cream tone to enhance readability.

I began developing my app by selecting SF Pro Display as the typeface. Designed by Apple, it is highly legible, consistent, and widely used in mobile apps. It also includes nine different weights, making it versatile for various design needs.

To gather inspiration, I researched how other brands develop their apps, including AliExpress, DoorDash, Shein, and Chewy. I sketched key pages such as the home page, cart page, account page, category page, and map page to analyze their layouts and functionality.

With this foundation, I started designing the app in Figma, learning and refining my approach by watching tutorial of how to use Figma.

The final outcome of the app.
